This beautiful reference 116506 is the exclusive Daytona model released by Rolex to celebrate the iconic watch's 50th birthday. With a glorious platinum case (the first Cosmograph to win this honour), the watch is a close cousin of the great ref. 116520, and has the same stunning in-house movement: the 4130, which is the first Rolex calibre to use ceramic ball bearings in the automatic winding system. Where this model differs is in the rich brown ceramic bezel (and subdials) and the striking 'ice blue' dial—possibly an homage to the piercing eyes of Rolex darling Paul Newman, who is particularly associated with the Daytona and its exceptional racing watch legacy.
